To Whom It May Concern | My 2023 New Year’s Resolutions
Happy New Year! I feel like I have so much to say before the clock officially reaches midnight, and I have so little time to say it. But here’s one last piece to close out 2022, about all I’ve accomplished and want to accomplish going forward.
Thank you to everybody who subscribed this past year. I’m thrilled to have written editorials that resonated with so many people, people I don’t know and will probably never meet. Being able to write on a free platform like this have improved my life in many ways, too. I’ve been thinking more critically, and re-discovered my love for writing that I thought I lost a long time ago. I think this rediscovery could open up new prospects for me in the future!
But before we continue, here are some questions I’m sure you have if you’ve been keeping up with my content:
Spotlight: A Quick Q&A
Is your “Internet Archeology” mini-series continuing?
You bet! I’m about halfway done with the next draft, and I bet you’ll be very interested in this next topic. It’s… not the kind of thing I usually cover.
Are you making a Part Two to “Campfire Stories”?
Kind of. See, I realized I wrote myself into a bit of a corner there, with not much new to say. So “Part Two” will be a half-sequel, half-expansion.
Will you be doing another collaboration with Zeke?
Yes, and it’s about something very important to the both of us, so look forward to that!
Will you be making a new editorial on Lily Orchard?
Sorry to disappoint you, but probably not. She’ll certainly come up in various discussions on politics and the Internet, but I don’t have much of a reason to cover a new video of hers, much less make a new Top 10 list, unless she reaches a new rock bottom. As of now, “Let’s Talk About Abuse, Catfights, and Psychoanalysis Fallacies” is still the worst video she’s made and probably will ever make. You’d probably have to break YouTube ToS to make a video worse than that.
Now, I’ve been thinking a lot about my plans for 2023, and here’s a list (in progress) of things I want to accomplish this year:
Reach 100 subscribers.
I don’t think this one will be hard. As long as I keep my engagement consistent by writing more frequently (at least one editorial every 1–2 weeks), and keep expanding my reach to new topics, we’ll get there in no time! Until then, be sure to comment, share, and-
Yeah, no, this is too cringe even for me.
Lose weight.
I’m not sure how much yet (don’t want to lose more than is healthy), but I do know I want to be able to fit into these nice pants my dad got for me! I’ve already worked out a plan- nothing to extreme or strenuous- so this should be fairly easy, too.
Stop doomscrolling.
We’ve all done it, even if we didn’t realize it. I’ve made solid progress with this for a while, actually, but 2023 will be the year I stop for good. Hopefully with my updated medication, I can keep intrusive and impulsive thoughts under control that lead to doomscrolling in the first place.
Save more money.
I need to stop buying every bit of junk food I see, if I want my weight loss to stick. I need to stay off Mobile Premiere League, even if I haven’t spent any actual currency on it yet, before they pull me in too deep. Sure, money-matching people in off-brand Uno is fun, but someday I may be tempted to throw real money at this obvious scam.
Besides, my job is already paying me so little.
Be more open in my writing.
2023 is going to be me at my most outspoken and controversial yet. I’m not going to shy away from tackling subjects I’ve only occasionally thought about that also really interest me, and even though I’m open to constructive feedback, I’m not going to let other people dictate what opinions I feel comfortable sharing. Only common sense and Mediun ToS will be my guide.
Learn to play piano.
This one isn’t a guarantee, it’s not something I’m sure I’ll be able to do because of time constraints and other reasons, but it’s an idea. Just something I’ve wanted to try for a while.
Sure, I don’t have a concrete plan for many of the things I want to get done this next year, but honestly, that’s fine. I’ll take it one step at a time, look back at this editorial if I need a reminder of what I set out to do, and this time I’m NOT going to be afraid to ask for help if something feels out of my control!
One last thing: Thank you to everybody for reading my editorials, sharing them, and leaving your feedback. It sound very cheesy and cliché, but it really means a lot that so many people care about what I have to say, and I appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for sticking by me, even if don’t always agree with me. Let’s make this new year the best one yet!
Thanks so much for reading. Until next time, stay on the hook!
