Hey guys, I’m back. Took a sizable hiatus for school and mental health, and… another reason.
You see, I actually had planned to return earlier than this. At the end of January, I realized that Black History Month was coming up, and I had planned to return with an article commemorating the occasion. It was going to be about all the good ways to advocate for racial justice, and how to not just be a good ally, but a good person. Best of all, the stars were aligned for it to be my next big article since “Fighting My Way Out Of A Paper Bag”.
But I never posted the article. I deleted the draft and it will never see the light of day again. I deliberately posted nothing for Black History Month.
Why?
Because apparently I don’t get the whole “race” thing.
But, hey, this guy does! Right?
Right?
Uhhh…

Where do I begin?
I mean, I could address the fact that many black people in America do know where their ancestors are from (of course, for some, the specifics aren’t important)…
Or the fact that “black” and “white” are both, in equal capacity, not races…
Or the fact that individual “white” groups, by this logic, would still not be able to be proud of their heritage because of past atrocities…
Or the fact that the core issue here is a manufactured “pride” vs ‘shame” dichotomy…
But acknowledging any of this puts me in a tricky position.
Because posts like this “sound good” and it’s easy to write me off as a “Devil’s Advocate”. If the white ally gets it, clearly I’m just an Uncle Tom! Right?
A large part of the time between my last post and now has been me realizing that while I’m very in line with leftist views on the economy, social issues are where I apparently struggle to keep up. On race, gender, LGBT+ issues, and so on, I’m often labeled a “class reductionist” for my efforts to trace problems to their source and not miss the forest for the trees.
All of this is something I plan on elaborating on in the near future, but people are okay with “brains that work a little bit differently” in theory until they actually have to reckon with what that truly means, that their ideology is not unquestionable or unshakeable.
So let this be a definitive statement on my part: From here on out, I’m only going to get louder, angrier, and more controversial. I’ll never abandon my principles completely, but be prepared to have your preconceived notions challenged on what it truly means to be a leftist!
